"It's difficult to get the films now, it's all video video video..."
The opening dialogue from this film is taken directly from the movie, Strictly Ballroom. Scott's father, Doug Hastings, says the line at a ballroom championship while playing with his video camera, only to be met with a harsh response by those around him. The character of Doug is submissive throughout the film, but has a hidden agenda that is obvious to the audience, but not to the characters around him. I think this song suits Doug's character, and I find it to be highly entertaining with its shakers and playful piano work. Add to this the mumbling sound of the vocals droning on about how "it's all video video video", and you've got a light hearted tune to bop along too.
Here's what Baz Luhrmann had to say about Os Quindos De Ya Ya [from hollywoodandvine.com]:
"The story of this song relates again back to Ted Albert as he introduced me to it. From the first day I heard it, it had Doug Hastings' name written all over it."
