Track 3:
Lovefool (Snooper
Version)
Performed and produced
by Snooper
Written by Peter Svensson & Nina Persson/Song of PolyGram, Inc (publishing)
Original version appears on William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet
Lovefool is a wonderful
track featured on the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack and a perfect Juliet
theme for early in the film. However, the Snooper version featured on Something for
Everybody has a very different feel about it!
It is sung by a deep voiced male artist called
Snooper, hence the extended title of the track. I must admit, I actually find this song
quite amusing. I cracked up laughing the first few times I heard it, and I just loved his
drawn out style of speaking the lyrics. This remixed song is quite different to the
original version performed by The Cardigans, and yet it also has that same sense of fun
about it. It may take you a while to get used to this track if you're already familiar
with the original, but it definitely grows on you and really is a great remix.
Unfortunately, Baz's comments below only
relate to the original song, as featured on the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack. I
would really have liked to have known how this remixed version came to be recorded and
added to Something For Everybody.
Here's what Baz Luhrmann had
to say about Lovefool (Snooper version):
"During post production,
while working with editor Jill Bilcock, we still had not been able to find the appropriate
Juliet theme for the first half of the film. The sound we were searching for needed to be
innocent yet witty and I remember hearing such a sound in a song that was on high rotation
on our housekeeper's radio in Mexico City. After humming the tune to many a music
supervisor, it was eventually identified as "Carnival" by an unknown band called
The Cardigans. Peter Svensson, the main writer in the band, was very keen to collaborate
on the Juliet theme and after a couple of early suggestions we finally established
Lovefool as the perfect choice."
