'Kissing You (Love Theme from Romeo + Juliet)' - Des'ree

(Please be patient as all 16 thumbnails load!)

Romeo moves towards the giant fish tank separating the male and female bathrooms   The Diva begins to sing  Romeo follows the fish with his eyes  Romeo sees Juliet's eye through the coral

Romeo stands and looks through the tank at this beautiful woman  Juliet stares curiously at the handsome stranger  Clever camera work makes the most of the tank's reflection creating this amazing shot   Before Juliet is pulled out of the bathroom by the Nurse, she flashes Romeo one last smile

Juliet is ushered into dancing with Romeo, but can't take her eyes off Romeo  Romeo stares at Juliet dancing in the crowd  The two young lovers share their first kiss in the elevator   Juliet is told that the stranger is Romeo - a Montague - the only son of her great enemy

Romeo prays after learning of Tybalt's death - where art Romeo?  Romeo arrives looking worse for wear  Juliet turns to face her new husband  The lovers tenderly embrace

This is the beautiful love theme for the film, and perfectly captures the instant attraction between the two young lovers. The song begins as Romeo submerges his face in a bathroom basin to drown out the madness of the Capulet Ball (this is similar to when Juliet did the same thing during 'Angel'). Romeo emerges from the water and looks at himself in the bathroom mirror, noting the giant fishtank behind him. He moves towards it, passing another party guest doing his 'business' in the back room (which always makes me smile!) And then the highly romantic sequence begins where he sees Juliet for the very first time.

There is brilliant use of camera work as we gaze at the two lovers from either side of the fish tank as they gaze at each other. Clever reflection in the glass makes it seem like they are standing face to face, and the chracters playfully smile at each other through the water.

Suddenly, the nurse interupts them and pulls Juliet away. Juliet gives stops for a moment to give Romeo one last, plyaful glance before leaving the room. The camera pans with her as she is lead out into the party, and then cuts back to Romeo who follows her. They can't keep their eyes off each other as Juliet dances with Paris on the dance floor. Romeo watches in admiration as a Juliet keeps glancing at him as she playfully tries to make it appear she is interested in Paris.

We cut away from the two lovers to watch a confrontation between Tybalt and Fulgencio Capulet. Tybalt has seen Romeo in the crowd and is angered by his presence, but his uncle tells him to let him be, as he does not want his party ruined by any disturbances. Tybalt insists that Romeo's presence is a disgrace, and the jovial Fulgencio suddenly turns sinister, demanding that Romeo shall be endured and slapping Tybalt across the face. Tybalt is clearly hurt byhis uncle's behaviour as he withdraws, his feelings of betrayal heightened by the soft sound of the music. It is a powerful moment full of emotion that shows the true nature of these characters for the first time.

We are then taken back to Juliet dancing with Paris on the dance floor, and Romeo admiring her from afar. He says the famous dialogue, "...for I never saw true beauty 'til this night", and watches as Juliet finishes her dance and the song draws to a close.

After Romeo and Juliet talk briefly, an instrumental version of the song begins as the two lovers embrace in the elevator. The song continues as Juliet tries to avoid her mother and Paris, the lovers enjoying another seculded few moments back inside the elevator. However, the song draws to a solemn end when Romeo realises that Juliet is a Capulet, and Juliet's nurse informs her that he is a Montague.

An instrumental version also lingers throughout the famous balcony/pool scene, and ends as Juliet bids farewell to Romeo, "Parting is such sweet sorrow that I should say goodnight til it be morrow."

Finally, the song is heard when Romeo returns to Juliet on their wedding day after the disatrous events that have transpired. They lovingly embrace each other with a tenderness that allows them both to forget what has happened for the night.

Lyrics:

Pride can stand a thousand trials
The strong will never fall
But watching stars without you
My soul cries

Heaving heart is full of pain
Oh, oh, the aching
'Cause I'm kissing you
I'm kissing you

Touch me deep, pure and true
A gift to me forever
'Cause I'm kissing you
I'm kissing you

Where are you now
Where are you now
'Cause I'm kissing you
I'm kissing you
