I stumbled across this information today through a visit to Sanity music store. As I browsed the soundtrack section, I decided to buy another copy of the Moulin Rouge soundtrack (with the Australian cover, as opposed to the UK version!) When I went to pay for the CD, the girl behind the counter grinned and cried out, "Moulin Rouge! Come with me - I have to show you something." She then lead me to a display of Red Curtain DVD's. I asked when these had become available in Australia, and she told me yesterday! We then discussed the box set in detail, and I listened as she told me how much she adored Baz. I agreed and told her to keep promoting the box set, and she said she definitely would! I must admit, I've only been back in Australia for 2 weeks, but already I have encountered a very enthusiastic reaction to Moulin Rouge, and I have a feeling the box set is also going to receive a very positive response here in Oz! ;-)

"As if he didn't have enough on his hands staging Puccini's La Bohème on Broadway, director Baz Luhrmann will make an appearance at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore 7 PM Dec. 2. The interview/Q&A/signing for the behind-the-scenes illustrated journey of his film, "Moulin Rouge," will take place at the Union Square branch in New York City. "

- After the success of Moulin Rouge earlier this year, it is Baz's magnificent production of Puccini's opera La Bohème that is currently making headlines around the world. It has received very positive reviews and already it seems that Baz has succeeded in reviving yet another genre for a wider audience. Therefore, as I launch my 'News Updates' section on this site, I will attempt to keep up with all the latest hype concerning La Bohème and report all the latest news right here on a regular basis.
- La Bohème sold out every show in its six week schedule of test performances in San Fransisco. Previews are set to begin on Broadway on 29th November, with the season officially opening on 8th December. Tickets are available to buy right now from La Bohème's official website. More information can be found about the production in my La Bohème section of this site.
An excellent MSNBC article written
by Jim Horn for Newsweek called 'Baz
is Broadway Bound' can currently be found online that details Baz's production of La
Bohème and observes him at work onstage. I highly recommend this article as a
general introduction to Baz's vision for the show!

- Another shorter article can be found at Broadway.com called 'La Bohème Meets the Press' that features many excellent colour photos of the cast as well as striking pictures of Baz and Catherine and a wonderful group shot!
- In other news, The Age (an Australian publication) reported on Sunday that Baz and Catherine hosted a gala evening to raise money for the victims of the Bali bombings:
Luhrmann to hold gala
for Bali
"Australian film director Baz Luhrmann is to host a
star-studded gala evening in New York to raise money for the victims of the Bali bombings,
it was reported.
The 'Moulin Rouge' and 'Romeo and Juliet' director and his Oscar-winning wife Catherine
Martin will host the event on Tuesday, The Sun-Herald reports.
Australian bands including INXS will perform at the Benefit for Bali, being held at the
Hammerstein Grand Ballroom.
New York residents Lachlan Murdoch and Sarah O'Hare are expected to attend the gala while
actors Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts have also been invited, the newspaper reports."

This event was held last night and hopefully raised lots of money for the Benefit for
Bali. Many Australians were killed in a recent terrorist attack on a popular Bali
nightclub. I was living in the UK at the time but, when I returned to Australia last week,
I could still feel an atmosphere of despair among fellow Australians. Australia has been
deeply shocked by the tragic event, and I commend Baz and Catherine for holding this
Benefit evening to raise money for victims and families of the victims - it was a
wonderful gesture of support.
