Archibald
Prize Update

As reported in my last news update,
Vincent Fantauzzo submitted a magnificent portrait of
Baz Luhrmann for this year's Archibald Prize. The above
image shows Luhrmann posing with his portrait, an image
that is currently featured on Vincent Fantauzzo's
Facebook page.
The
finalists for the Archibald Prize were announced today but, unfortunately, Fantauzzo's entry was not selected. Competition was high
this year with a reported 849 entries and, as Fantauzzo
said on his
website, there will be lots of disappointed artists
who did not make the cut. However, I think it is
reassuring to know that there will still be many people
across the world who will view the painting on the
internet and be able to appreciate and admire this
incredible work of art.

Vincent
Fantauzzo's Baz Luhrmann Portrait

As I reported in my news updates last month, Baz Luhrmann
and Vincent Fantauzzo recently returned home from an
epic journey to India. Around that time, Luhrmann also revealed that
Fantauzzo had painted his portrait for this year's
Archibald Prize and was quoted by
The Sydney Morning Herald as saying, "I've never
been painted, so I wanted to be painted by someone I
knew, [who] you can trust". This portrait of Baz
Luhrmann is Fantauzzo's fifth Archibald Prize entry. He has previously
painted portraits of Heath Ledger and Australia
star Brandon Walters for the Archibald Prize, winning
the People's Choice award for both of these iconic paintings.
Today, Vincent Fantauzzo unveiled his latest creation on
his
website. He has posted several photos of the
portrait, including the one above featuring Baz Luhrmann
posing with his image. As you can see, the portrait is
incredible. I believe that Fantauzzo has captured the
angst, the anxiety, the fear yet hopeful triumph of an
incredibly talented creative force.
Fantauzzo will find out if he has been selected as a
finalist on 17 March. I wish him the best of luck -
let's hope that he will win the People's Choice award
yet again with this magnificent piece of art! :)

Fantauzzo has also posted on his website a fantastic
video of the amazing mural that he and Baz Luhrmann
painted on the wall of the Indian Art hotel, Le Sutra, during their visit to India, which is
accompanied by wonderful music by AR Rahman. He
has also posted a
video of a news segment from Bloomberg UTV
featuring the creation of the mural and a short
interview with Baz Luhrmann about what he and Fantauzzo
were intending to achieve on their Indian visit, namely
using the platform of art to help the charity DEEDS and
also spread the message that:
"You're only half alive if you're living in
fear."
