Meet Me in the Red Room is an extremely racy track that embodies the reality of the prostitution business. However, it is far too naughty to be included in full in a PG rated movie! As a result, we only hear one line from this song in the film, and this is when Satine is in her elephant boudoir changing out of her strawberry red dress behind a screen. She then emerges in the sexy black lingerie that she wears to seduce the man she thinks is the Duke, but is in fact Christian! Ooooh tiger! ;-)
The lyrics of the song are 'bursting' with obvious metaphors and Amiel's vocals are super sexy and enticing as she invites her man into her bed. While Moulin Rouge is clearly set in a world of temptation, it never becomes distasteful and instead focuses on feelings of awe and excitement rather than the purely physical side of the passion that can be bought. On the contrary, Meet Me in the Red Room is purely about the physical pleasures of the flesh, and it is effectively used to introduce us to Satine's 'smouldering temptress' seduction of Christian.
