Who was Charles Zidler?

Yes, there really was a man called Zidler who ran the Moulin Rouge. However, his first name was actually Charles, not Harold.

On 10th September, 1892, Charles Zidler left the Moulin Rouge "for health reasons". He died soon after.

Zidler had added enthusiasm and brought bizarre but popular ideals to the club and, with his death, the Moulin Rouge moved into a new and different form. It was never to be the same again as it had been under his careful and enthusiastic role.
