DiCaprio Confirmed for Alexander the Great
The Toronto Sun has confirmed with producer Dino De
Laurentiis that Leonardo DiCaprio has signed to star in the Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge)
Alexander the Great epic, written by Ted Tally (Silence Of The Lambs). The trade adds that
Martin Scorsese is co-producing the film - which is interesting because he was making his
own Alexander pic earlier.
"We have the full support of the King of Morocco," De Laurentiis said.
"They give us 5,000 soldiers and 1,000 horses. It will be a very long movie to film
... you get together 5,000 extras, you need six months training just for them." De
Laurentiis and Luhrmann have agreed to build a major movie studio in Morocco.
Alexander, who lived from 356 to 323 B.C., conquered the known world by the age of 25 with
an army of 30,000. "The highest ideal in the Greek world is achieving undying
fame," said Tally, "and he was worshipped as a god for 1,500 years after his
death."
