Leonardo DiCaprio, Oliver Stone Conquer 'Alexander the Great' Race

HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) - Now that Fox has pulled out of the
Baz Luhrmann-Leonardo DiCaprio project "Alexander the Great," the Oliver
Stone-Colin Farrell movie on the Macedonian conqueror has set a June start date,
guaranteeing a jump on the rival film. Warner Bros. is currently in negotiations to become
the domestic distributor of the Intermedia picture.
The less high-profile Stone-Farrell movie, temporarily titled "Comandante," has
been moving ahead quietly, according to Variety, with Stone rewriting the script and
scouting for locations, and Farrell clearing his schedule in order to allow shooting to
begin on time.
The Luhrmann-DiCaprio project has now been temporarily halted as Luhrmann is busy with his
Broadway version of "La Boheme" and DiCaprio to soon begin work on Martin
Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic, "The Aviator." "Alexander" won't
realistically begin shooting until at least the fall.
Stone, 56, last directed "Any Given Sunday" with Al Pacino and Cameron Diaz.
Farrell, 26, last appeared in Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report." He'll be
starring next in Joel Schumacher's "Phone Booth," Marc Steven Johnson's
"Daredevil," Roger Donaldson's "The Recruit" and Schumacher's
"Veronica Guerin." He's currently shooting Clark Johnson's "S.W.A.T."
